Constitution of the Society of Environmental Professionals of West Virginia University

 

ARTICLE I.  NAME

 

The name of this organization shall be the Society of Environmental Professionals of West Virginia University


ARTICLE II.  PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote ethical practices, technical competency, and professional standards in the environmental fields and to promote academic and career development in environmental protection.

ARTICLE III.  MEMBERSHIP

 

Section 1.  The voting membership of this organization shall be limited to organization members who are WVU students.

Section 2.  This organization will not deny membership on the basis of race, sex, age, disability, veteran status, religion, sexual orientation, color, or national origin.

Section 3.  Dues and other membership criteria shall be established by a majority vote of the membership.

ARTICLE IV.  OFFICERS

Section 1.  The offices of this organization shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Officers shall be members in good standing and shall be elected from the membership at the last meeting of each academic year.  Terms of office shall be for one year, unless re-elected.  Officers with unexcused absences at three or more consecutive meetings will be deemed to have resigned.  Officers may be removed for cause or by reason of incapacity by a majority vote of the membership.  Vacancies due to resignation or removal shall be filled by an election at the next meeting after a vacancy occurs.

Section 2.  To hold an elected, or appointed office in this organization, a member must have at least a C (2.0) average at the time of election or appointment, and must be a full-time student.  Furthermore, the member may not be on academic or disciplinary probation.

Section 3.  The President shall preside at meetings and will oversee the implementation of all activities necessary and proper to achieve the purposes of the organization.

Section 4. The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President in case of absence, resignation, or incapacity of the President and shall have such other duties as assigned by the membership.

Section 5.  The Secretary shall keep minutes of meetings, maintain permanent records of the organization, and shall have such other duties as assigned by the membership.

Section 6.  The treasurer shall keep records of the funds of the organization, maintain bank accounts, sign all checks unless other persons are designated by the membership, and shall keep records of all income, expenses, assets, and liabilities, and present statements of such at meetings.

ARTICLE V.  SPECIAL WVU REQUIREMENTS

 

This organization will adhere to the West Virginia University Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.



ARTICLE VI.  MEETINGS

 

Section 1.  Regular meetings of the organization shall be called by the officers at least four times each semester and shall be held at times and locations convenient for students to attend.

 

Section 2.  Special meetings may be called by the President whenever deemed necessary or appropriate.

 

Section 3.  Quorum shall be constituted by those members in attendance at a regularly scheduled or special meeting.

 

ARTICLE VII.  COMMITTEES

 

Section 1.  Committees shall be established as needed by the President or by the membership at regular meetings.

 

ARTICLE VIII.  PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY


Section 1.  The membership will strive to reach consensus on all decisions for the organization.  Where consensus is not possible, a majority vote of the membership will decide the issue.

 

ARTICLE IX.  AMENDMENTS

 

Section 1.  Proposed amendments to this Constitution must be circulated in writing to the membership at the meeting prior to any vote on adoption.  The amendment will be adopted if it receives a majority vote at the next meeting.
